How I take care of my hair :)

Hi hiii

I realised that i had a few guest bloggers here sharing their hair care regimens and tips and tricks and all that fun stuff but i havent actually mentioned anything about how i take care of my own hair. if you havent already seen them here is naaku’s post and here is manayo’s

Honestly i only recently started taking proper care of my own hair. oh btw my hair is permed not natural. I havent even started seeing proper results but i do feel a difference. anywayy so a little background— sinnce like birth i have been blessed with thick hair and i took that for granted.my hair was fine until it started breaking when i got to college. I thought it was the weather and so all i used to do (end of my 1st year to about 2 months ago(4th year)) was to stick it under a weave or braids for 2 months at a time without washing it (oops :/ dont judge i know a lot of you do this) and then taking it out and then sticking it under another weave and waiting till i got back home to perm it. yah that was not the best. :/ i thought my hair was extremely strong and could handle all the tugging and pulling of the weaves and braids but i have realised that it is not becuase everytime i took my hair out of said braids/weave my hair was always waaayy shorter than what it was before i got the braids. that being said i have also gotten extremely sick of weaves and all that and soo about 2 months ago, after watching a million and one youtube videos and reading a lot of blogs i decided to actually take care of my hair instead of leaving it under the weave and expecting it to grow magically.

sigh that was a long background.

anyway  so i wash my hair once a week and deep condition it every other week. i have different oils and things i do every other day of the week which i will list nicely below.

Wash day:

  • tie my hair up into a pony tail and soak my ends in coconut oil & olive oil and then put some aluminium foil around it and let it sit for about 2 hours.
  • after 2 hours or so (sometimes longer, sometimes shorter depending on the things i have to do) i take down the pony tail, part my hair into four and then detangle with a wide toothed comb.
  • get into the shower and wash my hair. i wash first with shampoo and then rinse and then wash again with conditioner and a hint of shampoo. i have learnt that shampoo strips your hair of aaaalllll the oils and things and i have really dry hair so i dont really want aaall the oils to be gone :/ so thats why  i wash with conditioner the second time. some people dont use shampoo at all which also works but i just havent gotten used to the idea completely.
  • towel dry the hair gently and then apply the deep conditioner to my hair starting with the ends and thennn going up to the roots. i put a shower cap on it, then a scarf and then towel just to allow the conditioner to work its magic. i wait for about an hour or 2 (again depending on what i have to do).
  • go back into the shower, gently comb out the hair and then rinse.
  • come out of the shower, towel dry gently, put some coconut oil (yes when the hair is still wet) and then leave it to air dry.
  • before i go to bed i either wrap it (if i want to wear it straight for the rest of the week) or just put it in four braids.

Day 1 - Day 4

  • before i go to bed i oil my scalp with castor oil. i usually part my hair into four and then oil the scalp and then massage what is left onto the entire scalp. the castor oil is really thick so a little goes a long way.
  • take a drop of dark and lovely moisturizer and rub it onto my ends
  • take a drop of olive oil mixed with jojoba oil and then rub that ontop of the dark and lovely
  • take a drop of tea tree oil and massage my scalp. if you have dandruff or an itchy scalp the tea tree oil helps a looooot!

Day 5 (2 days before wash day) & Day 6 (1 day before wash day)

  • i do the same as day 1-4 but on this day i also oil my scalp with a little castor oil
  • on the day before i wash my hair i put a little more olive oil on my ends

the main oils i use on my hair are:

  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • coconut oil
  • jojoba oil
  • tea tree oil
  • castor oil

this seems like a lot but it has been working really well for me.my hair never feels oily or heavy and because i wash it every week, i get to control the build up.  another thing is i have stopped using all kinds of heat-straightners, curlers, blow dryers and i hardly leave my hair down especially because it is winter time and i dont want my ends to be rubbing on my scarves and on the neck of my coat. i doubt i will be getting a weave or braids in a while and thank goodness i have my clip-ins :)

wow this is a long post, soorryy anywayyy i hope this was interesting to at least one person, if you have any questions and what not you can just comment below orr message meee or something i dont bite :)
